Tao Te Ching or The Book Of The Way by Lao Tzu
Translation by S. Mitchell.

The Tao Te Ching, Daodejing, Dao De Jing, or Daode jing is a Chinese classic text. The text’s true authorship and date of composition or compilation are still debated. The oldest excavated portion dates back to the late 4th century BCE, but modern scholarship dates other parts of the text as having been written, or at least compiled later than the earliest portions of the Zhuangzi.
The Tao Te Ching, along with the Zhuangzi, is a fundamental text for both philosophical and religious Taoism, and strongly influenced other schools, such as Legalism, Confucianism, and Chinese Buddhism, which when first introduced into China was largely interpreted through the use of Daoist words and concepts. Many Chinese artists, including poets, painters, calligraphers, and even gardeners, have used the Daodejing as a source of inspiration. Its influence has also spread widely outside East Asia, and it is among the most translated works in world literature.
The Wade–Giles romanization “Tao Te Ching” dates back to early English transliterations in the late 19th century; its influence can be seen in words and phrases that have become well established in English. “Daodejing” is the pinyin romanization.

First off, you have a beautiful speaking voice, or whomever recorded the does, either way, very pleasing to the ears. The delicate flow of the words will become a part of my regular practice as the rhythm is perfect for silent contemplation.

Just curious though, why stop with that verse and not go through verse 81? Just wondering. Thanks for posting.

There is some difference between translations.

  22. ADerpyReality says:

Tao (/daʊ/, /taʊ/) or Dao (/daʊ/) DOW; from Chinese: 道; pinyin: Dào [tâu] ( listen)) is a Chinese word signifying 'way', 'path', 'route', 'road' or sometimes more loosely 'doctrine', 'principle' or 'holistic science'.
I looked it up thinking is Dao a god or not? It is not it is a way, path, route. I thought this would be good to put in.

I used to be sympathetic to wards Buddhism, but not anymore, looking deeper into it, its filled with many contradictions and arbitrary rules that make you realize the Buddha was just an ungrateful autistic hermit with an unwarranted sense of self importance and a ravenous cult of personality.

Because contrary to what people believe it to be liberal philosophy thats "super peacefull" and tolerant of all beliefs, Buddhism is ANTI-SELF and anti-individualistic, its communism with a spiritual/esoteric slant, and we all know how well communism worked out.

Christianity had it right, the actions of certain selfish individuals is the cause of suffering, not ALL attachment, because attachments can be POSITIVE as well as negative. Buddha had little understanding of psychology and human nature while Jesus DID.

Buddha just wanted people to sit and do nothing, and Inaction in the face of injustice is just as evil as active selfishness, hence why "criminal negligence" exists in our modern legal system.
