Oprah pays homage to her beloved mentor, Dr. Maya Angelou, by sharing one of her poems, “Phenomenal Woman.” She tells the live audience that she has been reciting it since she was a young woman. “When I discovered that poem in 1978, I didn’t believe I was a phenomenal woman—I spoke it into being,” Oprah says. How can I find the full speech of this event? I love the poem but to me this speech brought me so much courage and clarity and every time I listened it gave me a different meaning. I've been so disappointed is no longer available. Can you please share it again?

How very meta: a phenomenal woman reading “Phenomenal woman” written by a phenomenal woman.

  5. Mimi Ford says:

Oprah is such a phony. She pretends that black is beautiful. Yet the moment she could afford it she had plastic surgery to give her more Anglican features. She despised her face. And she is not a lighter skinned black she is coal black. She hates that, too. Hence, the Oprah we see on tv, about fifteen shades lighter than she is in real life. A little honesty about how she really views black women would be refreshing.
