    As an atheist, I'm disgusted.
I understand people have religions, but this is a whole another level of worshipping. Just have your period and boom, you're nothing. Just thrown out.

A remote tribe here in the Philippines also has a similar rite. This tribe also features an endangered dialect that is passed down only from one girl to the next (they get replaced upon nearing death, so the current "prophetess" is an old lady by the time she instructs her successor)

We also have a "Kumari" in the Philippines. But not as a goddess. It's a princess, We called this "Binukot" just like kumari, These princesses whose feet never touched the ground. but it's difference is the people from it's place, who keep women/ young woman from the public eye, beginning in childhood.
